So I kinda forgot this place existed for a hot second lol
Anyway, after alot of careful consideration, I decided: eh why not, let's do Opinion Voting again!

If you weren't here when I did this on OPforum, well the rules are fairly simple: I'll post a poll in this thread(usually between 2 similar options) and you pick which one you agree with/prefer/like better, etc. It would be appreciated if you also give a couple sentences worth of reasoning as to why you (insert verb that fits here) but it's not required.  :almighto:

So, to start off, I'm picking a topic that I feel almost all of us know about and have strong opinions on: Which do you prefer, Anime or Manga?

For me personally, I prefer Anime for a couple reasons, but first and foremost is that animation is way easier to get my hands on then a large collection of books, especially when I can barely afford to buy my precious trading cards these days.  :laff:  Another big reason why is because I find reading Manga just a teensy bit harder than watching anime, because I have this weird habit where if a page has no actual words I tend to just immediately skip it, so I tend to miss out of cool action scenes in manga. It's just a weird quirk o'mine I guess. Anime isn't exactly the best medium either(dubs tend to be hit or miss, animation itself tends to be pretty lackluster unless the anime is a fan favorite, and oftentimes when I go to look for specific scenes it's just AMV after AMV when I just want the raw footage) but overall I would much rather sit down and watch some anime than sit down and read a manga. Just more convenient to me.

So, let's go voting, shall we?  :avy:

I prefer anime because the story comes to life with the animation and background music and all. Especially, Japanese seiyuus do such a marvelous job! I like manga as well but if I have to choose one, it'd be anime.

I personally prefer Manga myself. I think mainly it comes down to being able to consume the storyline at my own pace. I find that I pay less attention to something I'm watching than reading too so my mind wanders during anime

That is a very hard question. Maybe even a year ago I would totally go with anime. I watched it mostly. The music, the colour, the dynamics of each scene that is made is much easier to captivate the viewer, to make you like it, to remember something particular better. It's more clear, what is happening, who's talking and what sound is meant to be produced. Not to mention those marvelous voice actors's ability <3

Of course, in the case of manga, the story is more detailed, many things that couldn't be used in the anime are there and they complete the story very well. Your point of view about the anime can be changed after reading the manga even. Problem is, the twists can be sometimes chaotic and not really surelly stated, so it can make the read quite confusing sometimes. It depands on the drawer and distribution of the panels mostly. In some mangas it's a hard read too and it may take more time than the anime episode would, so it can be time consuming. Although you can of course read it very fast, but again, you might tend to skip parts which are actually quite significant.

And there is another problem of mine. I watch Chinese "animes" :D They are often addaptated from the novel, which is even more detailed work than manga is (manhua in this case). And in my opinion, these animes are more chaotic than the novels are, often don't make sense, bcs they're very quick paced and yet they still use a lot of long names of not really well known things and in most cases they lack any explanation what those namings are (those are explained well only in the novel). And the manhua is actually an addaptation of the novels too. I don't have a great experience with manhua, it contains some explanations, yes, but tend to cut of the story too much sometimes....and the scrolling till you finally get to the point of the twist....aargh, my mouse is crying all the time. So I would go with the novel wahah, but that is not an option in here...so back to the point.

It is very hard, but if I'd have to choose and didn't count anything Chinese, it's the anime. It was a very close fight tho. I'm so moody that I can't even make the choice according to what would I rather do (watch vs. read). It depands XD But if I'd count Japanese anime only, I would go with the anime option. That's my current final choice.

Yay for opinion voting! Always liked that on OPF :wavyyay:

I'll go with anime. While manga is amazing, the art is impressive and basically most (if not all) of it is canon, I will never be more able to immerse in a world than doing it through movies/series/anime/games -- moving images that play out before me. Aspects like music, voice acting and timing are what makes it more enjoyable for me.

In One Piece's case... I love the anime, but the past few arcs the manga has definitely been better and I do enjoy it more at the moment.

I prefer my visual media to be more visual/interactive and dynamic. Thus anime is the upgraded version of manga, IMO. I recognize that there are faults in adaptation but if I haven’t consumed the original, I don’t have to deal with that lol.

I agree. But the adaptions of Korean webtoons are soooooooooooooo terrible that I can tell they are bad without even reading those webtoons. Last night, I was watching God of High School and I could feel how rushed it was. And of course, there's Noblesse....

we’re just going to have to agree to disagree. I enjoyed that show. I’m sure there was a lot they could’ve put in there but it was enjoyable and I loved the theme song. Watching things week to week makes a difference from binging it in how it’s perceived as well.

I didn't say it's not enjoyable. I just said it's rushed. Too many things happening in every episode. But I'll agree to disagree on the opening though. Not my type of song :pikajoy:

Generally I prefer whichever is the original medium for a given series, as much is lost in adaptation to a different one. In general though I much prefer manga. The sheer detail and time you can give to scenes works to the advantage of many series in manga form, especially horror and fantasy.
Both Junji Ito's work and Mahoutsukai no Yome lost a lot of the magic they had in the gorgeous artwork of the manga when moved into anime form for me.
There's also the fact that creating a manga is much easier than an anime, so more original concepts tend to make it into manga form where as for an anime you'd have to convince a studio and investors that it will be worth their while, resulting often in rather dull material, not to mention the usual 12 episode anime that only serve to advertise the original VN/LN/manga to begin with.

Yes, I definitely prefer manga.
