Concerning Furuya
Spoiler
I'm one of the few people that loves him :usopp: His character is endearing. I like when he goes dragon ball z mode and wants to monopolize the mound. And his fast pitching is effective and beautiful to watch. And he's a perfect rival. There are too many baseball manga to count staring pitchers as the main character and like 90% have a fastball. I think the OPness of Furuya makes Sawamura's uniqueness shine more. The story becomes much more compelling because Sawa-chan has to struggle so hard to stand out. A lot of sports manga SAY how disadvantaged the mc is and yet they overcome opponents and rivals so easily, always make the starting lineup, etc. Sawamura is a character I can really relate to because of Furuya. I read the manga on mangago and the comments section is always full of people hating on Furuya XD. I have a theory that it's because they empathize too much with the characters they read and then don't like feeling like they're losing. They don't actually want an underdog story. They want to be labelled as a underdog, but really WIN IT ALL :laff: jsut my crazy ramblings that don't really have anything to do with your discussion XD

Spoiler
I honestly don't get those people tbh, in the last few chapters/episodes I looooove seeing Eijun's/Furuya's relationship that's build on rivalry from both sides (at first it was mostly Eijun) Him being an underdog? I'm fine with it! But yes obviously it does hurt haha, however that's part of it isnt it? The writing is in such a way you just can't NOT feel bad for Eijun at some points. Moreso just like kia said when the Furuya agenda was being pushed harder than usual. anywaysssss
spoiler for kia too
he became Ace anyway HAHAHA WE HAPPY PEOPLE. I like the fact that furuya gets to play the games too still, starting it while he's exactly bad at that.. Though im not sure how the match vs sousei is gonna play out... hmm..

I really wish season 3 had ended when he became ACE. They took that beautiful feeling away from me and made him have like a nervous breakdown T^T

Spoiler
I think they didn't come out with the episodes as they wanted to? Cos it wasn't a fairly long match (yes I read the manga immediately after that ending) and they also skipped over Ichidai's match just to have this open ass ending that people will have to do with for another 2y lmao. I really hope that wasn't on purpose cos 😭 that would be cruel. I get where you're coming from

Okay 1. I took it as him being in love with him due to his playing style/the thrill he felt playing against him B. I cried and fell for him a bit in that moment I shared on Twitter 4. I’m done with season two now—those games were whoa!! I could tell that both coaches were gonna stay. I knew Miyuki was hurt from that tackle. I was ignoring it because URG. I was too busy being pissed that that bastard wasn’t ejected from the game for the tackle in the first place and if I addressed the injury right then, I’d never stop ranting about it so I had to breathe and move on. Sawamura telling Furuya that he’s taking the ace number—yes. Ending with him on the mound at nationals, my heart. What really stuck with me is Ochiai’s growth in that he would’ve kept Sawamura on the mound in that game instead of putting Furuya on. He didn’t finish his sentence but that was the implication. Not starting the third season because I’ve got things I need to do today. Wish me luck.

That tweet killed me too! Okay so I’ve been too busy watching to even post—my bad—fricking Furuya is having so many issues. Like I feel for the guy but during that game when he should’ve been replaced earlier?! I was sooo upset!! Poor Eijun. Now it’s getting so real. And I love the young catchers, especially the wolf—he’s adorbs. That personality. They’re gonna make a great battery. That moment when Yui and Eijun paired and vice versa with Furuya and Okamura was great, too. I’m loving the journal entries as well. Oh gawd the art of pitching spiel that had him blushing was a beaut. Like again, how homo-erotic is this show? It hooked him and me from the start and he repeated it blithely then got embarrassed. Too cute. Alright. I’m back to it now. Just had to stop and gush for a little bit. I know y’all missed this—not lol.

SEASON 1 REVIEW
I really took my time and finished the first season at a much slower pace than my usual but I am glad I did it. I enjoyed every episode as a result. Now I will tell you my thoughts on Diamond no Ace Season 1. I have never felt this strongly for a sports anime--not even Haikyuu!! that I love from the bottom of my heart. DnA is perfect, especially for guys who only like the games part in every sports anime and skip the "talking part".

ANIMATION/ART
Spoiler
Studio? Madhouse x Production I.G. Why will I have complaints? Madhouse has produced so many good works (ONE-PUNCH MAN S1!, Hunter x Hunter 2011, Death Note, Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu, etc.) and has become my favorite animation studio. Production I.G. is also my favorite when it comes to sports anime and some shoujo stuff (Haikyuu!!, Kuroko no Basket, Kimi no Todoke, Mahoutsukai no Yome, Psycho-Pass, Vinland Saga, etc.). Yes, this anime doesn't have the cleanest art and has some weird frames sometimes but considering the year the anime was produced, it is good enough.

MUSIC
Spoiler

OP #3: "Hashire! Mirai (疾走れ!ミライ)" by Glay (eps 52-75)

I just love the message of the song. It's inspiring and very fitting for what was happening in the show during that time. Lemme put my favorite lines here:

"We’re fighting again today in a world of winners and losers
There were never any dreams to begin with that could come true
Let’s stand up

When I get stronger someday,
I’ll loudly sing this song
I just can’t let my dreams end as mere dreams"

When this was played at the end of the season, I was holding back my tears. It felt like I was experiencing the same things as the team. I still couldn't get over the loss against Inashiro but I felt more hopeful about the future where I see Seido get stronger and win more games :sweating:

STORY
Spoiler
The story is very straight-forward. It follows the journey of the main character (Sawamura Eijun) along with our other important characters (Miyuki Kazuya, Kominato Haruichi, Furuya Satoru). Obviously, we all love these guys (I will kill you if you don't :blob: jk)

Pros: It's not just about one person. It also highlights the relationships of our MCs with others. You can honestly even love the enemies (Sanada and Raichi <3) because of its exposition. I just love the overall atmosphere of the show. The jokes aren't forced while some emotional scenes were also delivered right. And the best thing about this show? The way it just keeps you at the edge of your seat! It has a way of hyping up so many events to the point that you are not really given any time to be bored. I have never felt this strongly for a sports anime--not even Haikyuu!! that I love from the bottom of my heart. DnA is perfect, especially for guys who only like the games part in every sports anime and skip the "talking part".

Cons: I honestly can't think of any right now. The only thing that I found weird is that there are too many lefties for my taste. But haha I guess it's not as uncommon as I thought xD

CHARACTERS
Spoiler
I want to adopt everyone in the series xD But if I had to choose only 5 of them, these guys are my favorite characters (as of S1):
  • 1. Kominato Haruichi- He's such a cutie. At first, I loved how earnest he is when it comes to working hard so he can be recognized by his big brother. He was this cute kid who only worked hard for that goal but in the later episodes, we saw him transform from someone who walks behind the shadows of his older brother like a carbon copy to a different individual with a new and more personal goal. I love his character development.
  • 2. Miyuki Kazuya- I don't really think it's necessary to explain why Miyuki is awesome. I bet you all love him too :dancingblob:

  • 3. Takigawa Chris Yuu- His role, as Sawamura's mentor/big brother who our MC looks up to, is very pivotal to the story. He's basically the one who moved the story a couple of times because his actions affected Sawamura as a character (Upperclassmen vs Underclassmen game! :blush2: ).
  • 4. Narumiya Mei- He appeared annoying and too boastful but upon knowing his story, I developed a huge respect for his character and his motivations.
  • 5. Yuuki Tetsuya- Real tough and hardworking guy. I would ask him out if I went to high school with him. The only problem is that he will definitely have so many admirers. I am surprised I didn't see a Yuuki Fanclub tbh.

Special Mention: Kuramochi Youichi - I just love his laugh and his attitude towards things. He will continue to be an integral part of the team and Miyuki's helper when it comes to managing the team. Whenever he appears, I can't help but chuckle. I love when he kicks Sawamura xD

SEASON 2 PREDICTIONS
Spoiler
  • Coach Kataoka will not leave the school by fall because...
  • Seido will be able to reach the nationals just before the season ends.
  • But, in order to do this, they will have to win against Yakushi first.
  • Sawamura will be a master of ball control and will learn new pitching styles as he aims to become the team's ace.
  • Furuya will still wear the ace number as we continue to see him improve on his stamina and eventually become a full-fledged ace.

I started watching S2 so I can't wait to see which of those things above will come true! :avy:

Overall Score: 10/10
