Far in the future, the human beings were pushed into the deep underground world called Labyrinth and they are living shoulder-to-shoulder. The Labyrinth has several colonies with severe settings such as one having an insanely high temperature, while another is full of gold and silver. Among those, in a colony of Pinyin, resides a curious nine-year-old girl named Memempu and her father Gagumber. As "workers" aiming for survival, they live with the lowest profession of riding a working robot to dig ore.

One day, Memempu pestered Gagumber, a cave examiner who makes maps of the internal part of Labyrinth, to go travel together with her to find her mother. As a "marker," Gagumber holds the most dangerous yet attractive profession. One step outside the colony is already deemed to be a dangerous area and meeting a huge mysterious creature that loiters the cave, one's chance of living will be cut down to five percent. Since it is a dangerous racket to explore the unknown world, the map they hold is valuable and can be sold at a high price. However, is the price for their curiosity higher? What could be the cruel truth that is hidden among them? What awaits at the end of the test? In this travel story between a father and a daughter surrounds adventure with family love.

Episodes One & Two:

Spoiler
I have been watching this last night. So far, it got me intrigued way more than I thought it would. Love the attitude that Memempu has and her bickering with her dad is so much fun to watch. Love their dynamic up till now.

Watching her struggles and ambitions will be fun. I don't have that much time anymore, so writing big reviews is going to be a challenge.

Episode Three:

Spoiler
Time for their exploration into the labyrinth. The first two episodes set the world up in a very nice way and now we get to see what they do with it. There have been a few puzzle pieces in place. I wonder what type of story this is going to be.

Seems like it's going to be what it should be. Moving throughout the labyrinth and encountering new adventures along the way. Still the best thing in the show is the dynamic between father & daughter. Up till now that's the one thing that has been keeping me into this show.

This episode didn't do much for me. I thought it was fairly standard stuff. The only thing that was interesting was the ending. It will make me keep watching just to see what happens. I agree with Memempu learning stuff about relying on her father every now and then, but it's not something I feel like she learned from this adventure.

I am fairly enjoying this show. Love the opening and ending.

About episode 6
Spoiler
But last week's episode was kind of a bummer. It felt like poor storytelling and execution, or too much rush maybe? Dunno... they couldn't really build up Yuri's story.
The flashbacks of Gagambar's past were kind of obvious. Something HAD TO make him retire from his marker career.

Agreed, but the whole season feels a bit out of place don't ya think?

To me, not the whole season. Just episode 6. Haven't watched episode 7 yet. I'm kinda getting a DecaDence+Gurren Lagann vibe, so really enjoying it on a whole.

Haven't watched episode 7 either yet. You will know when I do, but I am enjoying it. Just sometimes feels like the show doesn't know which way too go.

Episode Seven:

Spoiler
And here we, something interesting is happening in my opinion. I was waiting for the plot to kick in. I can understand from them waiting till the whole group was together.

I am not quite sure about the whole subplot with the sickness but it did make for an interesting episode. All focusing on Memempu and her dream. Or nightmare. Or dream at the end of it. It feels like them setting something up, especially when you see what is happening in her dream. This episode did however also give us a look at the fact that she's only 9 years old and it seeped through her when she got frustrated.

I do get a little bit concerned about the pacing. I hope they take their time, because right now I am invested in what is going to happen. The being that she thinks is Ururop is watching from a far. Very nicely done.

Episode Eight:

Spoiler
I think this was the most emotional episode of them all and I thought it was the best Episode out of all of them. This show is becoming more and more good with every passing Episode.

So being in his home town is quite something. We learned a lot about Gagumber and the fact that he indeed had a partner that was with him when he first started out as a marker. However, there are some answer this episode does not give. Or at least not it's not on the nose. First off all we have what really happened to Rufus. We know he died, but we aren't really given any sort of explanation about that. They hint at a Kaiju being responsible, which is something that happens in the life of a marker, but they aren't giving it to us.

Then we have the reason why the Gale was so transparant on Gagumber. Saying it overrides his nerve system. Which is why he's not able to face Zack head on? I'm not quite sure, it might be a translation error, but they do seem to imply his nerves system is down.

One other thing that I had with this is that it seemed like Gagumber is really moving on to the afterlife and cutting one major player from the show. At least that is how it came across to me. Surprisingly, I didn't think they ended this on a note that we can really agree on. Why is Zack not angry anymore at Gagumber? Why and how did Gagumber not die? I have questions which it hasn't answered yet.

Episode Nine:

Spoiler
I don't mind this show. I really don't. I think there are moving parts who try to move all in one direction, but it feels like going in 3 or 4 different directions each time you view an episode.

Could be me, maybe I am the one who's not getting what this show is trying to tell. But how can you pull off something like this the way they did. In the last episode Zack and Gagumber really went for it. She freaking shot him and in this episode, without any resolution, they just continue it. Like nothing happened. Gagumber even asks if Memempu is okay with it and I'm here like, dude....REALLY?!

I just don't get this kind of storytelling. Maybe someone else got it and can explain to me what they are trying to do and it would be greatly appreciated. I really mean that. There was some joy in this episode with the papaya for example and again some minor details with the criminal group that's been going around the colony's. But just like with what happened in Episode Seven. They are all small details in which we've yet to see what all of that really means.

I don't mind a slow burn with little pieces being dropped every now and then and waiting for them to line out and give us a clear perspective. What I do mind is lazy or non-existing story telling in Anime and this just seems like one at this point.
