Synopsis: Second-year high school student Yatora Yaguchi is bored with his normal life. He studies well and plays around with his friends, but in truth, he does not enjoy either of those activities. Bound by norms, he secretly envies those who do things differently.

That is until he discovers the joy of drawing. When he sees a painting made by a member of the Art Club, Yatora becomes fascinated with the colors used in it. Later, in an art exercise, he tries to convey his language without words but instead through painting. After that experience, Yatora finds himself so invested in art that he decides that it is what he wants to do for a living. But there stand multiple obstacles in his way: his parents who are hesitant over his unique choices, his more experienced peers, and the study of a subject much deeper than he initially expected.

I’m so bummed! This started airing already but isn’t coming to Netflix until October 9th. So I have to wait a few weeks until I can watch the first episode. The pain and suffering. 😭😭

So glad that this was available sooner!
episode 1
I love Yatora’s character! That art teacher is the best too. Of course I want ramen now as well. But this is going to prove to be so much fun! I bet he’s going to end up with Yuka as part of his competition too. Great times.

episode 2
Ohh… he joins the club, bonds with the sempai that inspired him and manages to convince his mom. Plus he’s going to go to prep school! And he’s advancing his skills while working through his insecurities. But it’s not too unrealistic in that he still has some pretty basic drawing skills if his drawings that he gave the sempai and the mom are to be taken as examples. They weren’t like pro level or anything. This is soo good.

episode 3
Oof. That guy was soo angsty and rude. Poor Yamagotchi. So much came out in this episode. I don’t know how I feel about the way they’re handling Ryuji… I don’t know enough about the character to know how it’s defined but using “weirdo” either way is just ugh. And saying “you’d look better in men’s clothes” is insensitive. But Yamagotchi getting called out on not knowing what the essence of a painting is—big oof.

episode 4
Yaguchi seems like he’s doing well when he finally learns what the essence of a painting is and joins the oil painting class but his blue eyed classmate pulls the plug on him yet again. Seeing him cry over the quality of his work just wrecked me but watching him make the one painting was so inspiring. It turned out so gorgeous and the sensei was so excited for him too. I want to see what happens going forward with the two of them.
