During the intermission animation, anyone else. Price Luffy’s base form haki color changed? Instead of black, it now resembles his gear 4th color.

So I enjoyed this one—no surprise there. Getting the Rayleigh stuff I wanted though hopefully there will be more of it. And Hyo looks pretty intrigued by Luffy’s activities and Luffy himself so that’s fun for sure. If I’m not mistaken, he perked up when Rayleigh was mentioned—curioser and curioser. But add to that some good old fashioned Zoro action and I’m sold. Watching him go from being menacing to exasperated to perplexed to heroic to badass scoundrel and exasperated badass was so much fun.

Don’t get me started on the whole interplay with Tama, Chopper and O-Lin. Priceless.

It’s been doing that for a while, since it came back at least. It flashes red then black.

I was just talking about the animation of it turning black as I described it.

Yeah, I figured that was what you were talking about. That’s why I posted the photos.

I wonder if this is was a mistake or if its going to be a new ability or haki upgrade for base form.

I didn't like this new addition because it made me think the bat-guy had haoshoku (which he should not). They are creating visualizations for haki clashes of all types, which overlaps too much since it was only shown for haoshoku. Maybe this is the glitch and it was mistakenly added for the bat-guy, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I think we are talking about the red and blue flashes after contact is made. It is smaller than the Kaidou vs. Luffy parts, but the exact same effect is being shown.

Overall excellent episode with the anime doing a great job of filling in the gaps Oda is now purposefully adding.

My only gripe is other people (the hired assassin, the bat-guy), being able to match the level of training Mihawk gave Zoro/Rayleigh gave Luffy. The literal best training in the world is being matched by some magic power-up. Completely contradicts the whole point of technique/swordsmanship/haki since people of a lower tier are equals to Luffy/Zoro. They should struggle against Kaidou, they shouldn't struggle against fodder (100% the bat-guy).

So I guess this overlaps with the above part that bat-guy's haki being somewhat equal to Luffy's is just incorrect to me. Visually, things were great and it looks like it is going to continue with the next episode too.

Does Komurasaki's face look different to you @WeebyWitch? Maybe it was the artwork, but even within the episode, her facial structure/shape seemed to change (and seems different from what I remember in the manga).

But poor Chopper...if Tama and Kiku knew what Big Mom is capable of, they would not be talking to her in the same mannerisms like they are now. This was definitely great expansion by the anime team.

@seiryu

The color of the base form haki was still black while fighting. It was only the intermission scene where the color was changed.

When Luffy and Batman first fought, I was disappointed when an angry Luffy couldn’t punch through a subordinate’s haki guard. So, after training with sea stone cuffs and becoming stronger, I saw the explosive haki collision as one sided and showing Luffy’s growth to overpower Batman now. Didn’t make me think Conqueror’s at all.

I’ll doublecheck but I know that having bangs and your hair down, versus having your hair pulled up makes your face look different. Also having a head covering wrapped around her. Plus I think she was missing her extravagant Oiran makeup. So it could be a reflection of all that.

Her face doesn’t look much different from chapter 937 to me. I’m checking episode 921 to see her all in her gear but it’s not super helpful so I’m going to episode 927 when she’s with Orochi and it’s the hairstyle plus the makeup/expression in her eyes, etc. I tested it with my own hair—pulling it back from my face in a puffy uplifted style versus down framing the face to confirm my thoughts about it. But I’m almost positive that’s what it is, perception wise.

Oh man, there's a whole bunch of changes then. Yup, the color is changed like you posted, but I was talking about the blue and red color additions to the bat-guy and Luffy clash. This looks like what happens with haoshoku (which makes sense with Luffy and Kaidou having it shown). It is smaller, but the same thing happens with the bat-guy.

It is just a half a second or so in this chapter, but if you pause the wide-screen scene, there is blue and red lighting effects in addition to black lightning. Prior to the animation of Kaidou and Luffy's clash, ALL lighting visualizations was only haoshoku clashing with haoshoku. The fact that is it being visualized is an excessive overlap with the haoshoku clash (to me at least). I guess if this doesn't bridge the disconnect between us: what do you see that is different between haoshoku clashes as the bat-guy and Luffy clash?

Sounds like we agree on them "weakening" Luffy/Zoro/Sanji/etc. They are not fighting 100% seriously, but their half-hearted effort should still easily win. It doesn't make sense that bat-guy has such a high level of defensive busoushoku when his offensive busoushoku is so damn weak (there is haki being imbued and we see the dramatic difference between offensive benefit and defensive benefit).

@WeebyWitch sorry, I was jumping to super small stuff like her facial bones looking different in the second scene. The first scene with her his pretty much identical to how Oda draws her. Everyone has different art styles, so her facial structure is a little different in the second scene of her. Probably late when I posted so I completely brain farted on the personal differences in art styles.
