Oh crap. I didn’t realize this thread was about all the statues. seiryu can you please merge my thread with this one? All of the statues can be in one thread. It doesn’t make sense to have multiple threads for each one. I missed this when I posted mine and it would be cleaner to have them all together methinks. I’m sorry about that. 😓

Masks will probably have to be the norm for the short term, but I've already heard quite a bit about vaccines internationally. From a purely medical standpoint, the freedom of travel should open back up once the vaccines are distributed and shown to be working.

I don't know the technical details, but I know bronze is super hard to work with. There's the Ronoldo bust from not too long ago that looks like a cartoon version. The NFL uses the same master for all of their hall of fame busts and even then, there are just certain details that are just impossible to get to look life-like. The actual shape of the smile is very similar to what Oda draws (it takes up around one third of his face). The eyes are what makes it look a little off to me. If I'm honest, the lack of detail makes it see like they did everything else and ran out of time. There are contours to create the 3D visualization/impact every where else...except the eyes.

I would say that it’s the cheeks... right under the eyes that look wrong/off. As someone with “chipmunk cheeks”, I can tell you that the way your cheeks puff out when you smile makes a huge difference in your facial expression/shape. When you smile that big, your cheeks are going to puff out a lot so... it’s a hard balance to strike.

I'm bumping the thread because in the most recent WSJ, there's an ad page showing 5-6 of the other statues (or at least parts of them). Nami's is by far the most disappointing (I don't think I need to expand on the reason why), but on quick browsing the details for Chopper and what little they show of Franky has TONS of details (or at least dramatically better/more accurate details relative to Luffy's, which looked OK). If nothing comes up, I can crop the individual pieces here. Oh, and similarly, I HAVE to go back and look up the ad page where Bochi draws an amazing looking take on Blackbeard.
