In an advertisement for the upcoming One Piece Magazine volume 10 on September 4, this year's 35th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine teased on Monday that Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga is "headed toward the upcoming final arc." The advertisement did not give any more specifics. The advertisement made the reference as the 10th volume of the One Piece Magazine will focus on a theme of rereading the manga to "prepare for the climax." The 10th volume of the magazine will also start Boichi's adaptation of the One Piece: Ace's Story novels. Oda reported in a YouTube video posted in September 2019 that he "wants to end in five years." While he was still in high school, Oda was a runner-up for the Tezuka Award for new creators from Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1992. He began serializing the One Piece manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump manga on July 19, 1997. As of April, the manga had 390 million copies in print in Japan and 80 million copies in print in over 42 other countries and territories, for a total of more than 470 million copies in print worldwide. The manga won the 41st Japan Cartoonist Awards in 2012, and set a Guinness World Record in 2015 for "the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author." Because Oda's editor said that: If One Piece will end within 5 years then we have to believe that it's going to end up in 5 years. Which is NOT exactly true. WSJ magazine is only teasing the climax of Wano arc. Because, we've got some irrevelant secrets like - Who's Luffy's mother and the Void Century, the true history of One Piece. Not to mention about the 3 major arcs and a 10-year-timeskip between the final arc of the VS. 4 OVERLORDS saga. So Luffy will definitely need that 10 years to heal up from the wounds of Laughtale and he will indeed have to master all the 3 types of willpower to dominate over the tyranny of the Celestial Dragons.

Even if that’s your opinion, which is a logical one, so far as it goes based on the evidence that you’ve given I’m not debating it one way or another, you don’t need to be so brusque and rude about it as to pose the title of your thread that way. That doesn’t come across as being in the spirit of community. You could’ve started a discussion in the thread that you quoted verbatim instead of taking this inflammatory route, methinks. Title and content of the post did throw me off a little Anyways, there is no real point in debating this, either way, don't think its ending before at least 2 more arcs, which is Gaint's (shanks arc) and then final arc. Both of them are going to be huge, so it can't end in a year or two anyway. I also think it might not be over in 4-5 years either. Just my pov.

Why not simply have a good time till the end. The End can be determined now rather subjectively than objectively anyway, so no stress... isn't One Piece quite unpredictable in some manner as the life itself? Let's enjoy it to the fullest as long as it runs

I don't know. For me, after the time skip, the manga dropped the quality a little. I was super hyped for the Fisherman Island arc and it didn't deliver that much. Same with Punk Hazard, which was the arc I truly hated. Dressrosa was cool and the Whole Cake Island arc was.....fine, I guess. Wano goes smoothly, but it lacks the usual hype for me. But that is besides the point. I think One Piece IS going to end in 5 years. 5 years is enough time for Oda to clear all the confusion, surrounding the manga. I'll be really sad when it ends, but all good things must come to an end.

I'll say this regarding what we still have to cover: The rest of Wano (might not even be over by the end of this year). Elbaf Luffy has to beat Akainu at some point Luffy has to beat Blackbeard Luffy has to meet up with Shanks and maybe fight? We have to see the fallout of the Reverie Revolutionary army has to have a wano sized arc involving whatever they end up doing (been set up for too long not to get a major focus) We have to actually go find the One Piece Obviously, since we're fighting Yonkou, we're on the tail end of things but I would wager 4 more years at a rather break neck pace would be necessary for Oda to wrap things up without going on new tangents which he loves.

I think we 100% agree on all the major points (just changing the title makes it valid for me and pending discussion/input from the rest of the team). Yup, the old title takes this is a whole different direction. I do think this is a valid discussion point though. It is 100% false advertising if the translations are correct. I 100% am convinced by Marco's most recent theory, so the real "final war" will still make look like a potential Big Mom/Kaidou alliance look small and insignificant to what goes down at the end of the series. Calling Wano Kuni the climax of the series seems completely out of place when the overthrow of the Government is going to be a bigger and more world changing event. I'm starting to get convinced with Oda being consistent with this faster pace that the 5 year estimate is becoming a real possibility. Again, I'm kinda going against my usual self and actually trusting the "official" translation since this sort of thing can happen all the time where the raw conveys a completely different message but Japanese is just that intricate sometimes. I think I'm gonna go through with posting it since it's coming up again. I'll tag ya for convenience. If things go with all the breadcrumbs connected, then ALL the hype is coming up real soon. Unless Oda is combining arcs (someone mentioned Shanks during Elbaf for example and how the Kaidou and Big Mom wars appear to be combined now), the 5 years seems a bit optimistic. However, the pacing has jumped astronomically, so I 100% agree it seems completely legitimate now. The 5 years was mentioned a while ago (might have been half a year plus already), so I think it is realistic if we count from now though.

Oda is only 45 so he could theoretically start another story after One Piece so he might have some interest in wrapping things up so that he can do another series.

Oh for sure. I'm willing to bet the workaholic in him doesn't let him not at least attempt a second series (he's his own biggest critic, so he's going to expect similar popularity, which is impossible pretty much). He's said early on he wants to do a mecha series (despite saying he's not good at drawing them, which is relative to his high standards on artwork). This means he already has a general plot in mind, so I have a hard time thinking he doesn't follow through with that. I know it would be a different approach but it would be cool to see Oda letting someone else handle the art while he just focuses on narrative and dialogue. Seems like it would take off a huge load for Oda. He can't do any worse than Kishimoto's Samurai 8. Couldn't stand that series and I gave it every chance possible.

Oda used to put so much emphasis on artwork (pretty sure his quote is that he thought the person with the best drawings would be the best mangaka). It would definitely save him so much stress to delegate out the drawing. As for Samurai 8, it was sad to see it just drop lower and lower in the order ranking in each WSJ. Looked like he even tried to accelerate the plot to jump to some climax points, but if that still wasn't good then...damn...that's too bad that the series flopped.

Contrary to the recent comments by Oda on wanting to conclude the series in about 5 years (this might be close to 4 years by now), Oda has shifted back to his slower and more thorough pacing with the manga. It is still faster than prior to Wano Kuni, but all signs indicate we will have One Piece for more than just a few years!
