Gonna do a short review here, though I do want to go back to writing long reviews at some point...
Haikyuu: To The Top!: 9/10
After waiting nearly 4 years for this, I was really excited going in to the new season of Haikyuu. While the two OVAs they released were underwhelming (mostly because they tried to fit 15 chapters of content in to two 20-minute episodes), the actual season hasn’t disappointed. The new art style is truer to the source material and as a result the characters are more expressive than ever before. There’s a few moments where the animation doesn’t quite live up to expectation, but for the most part it’s very good, opting for a more “realistic” feel at times (no sakuga serves, I’m sorry to say). Character growth is a big focus in this part of the story and it’s been handled really well, with Hinata in particular benefitting. The new characters from the All-Japan camp are stellar additions to an already vibrant cast - Miya, Hoshiumi and Sakusa all stand out as some of the best players on the high school scene, and their particular quirks make for interesting additions to an already eccentric cast. My only slight criticism regarding character usage is that they’ve completely omitted two characters who provided useful commentary because of the decision to cover their part of the story in the OVA (introducing them now would make little sense). However, there’s a ton of other characters to provide this commentary, so it doesn’t affect the quality of the adaptation as a whole.
Overall this season of Haikyuu is a fantastic watch, and it lives up to the standard that Production IG set with the first 3 seasons, even with the dramatic change in art direction
