Ah, I remember when Grin and I had a similar thread to this back on Forumpiece. It was meant for everyone to participate but for some reason it was 99% just Grin and me linking songs back and forth to the point where we renamed the entire thread "Grin & Yum: Electric Boogaloo." Good times those were.
On that note, our thread had fewer rules than this one does, and I'm wondering about one of them:
3. No offensive songs or videos. Remember, there are people of all ages browsing this forum.
What does this mean exactly? I guess I sorta understand the idea behind the rule, but who decides what is and isn't offensive? Is a hip hop song with the N-word in it offensive? Are touchy or personal subjects like abortion, death or suicide offensive? Are certain swear words or jokes offensive? What about music with sexual themes (which is what like 50% of music boils down to anyway lol)? I'm not trying to be facetious by asking all these questions, I just feel like this is a highly subjective rule and I don't know what your criteria for offensiveness are and how this rule makes sense. A rule like this either has to be very concise on what is and isn't allowed, or the rule should not be there at all. The way it is now is extremely vague.
That being said, it's time I give my thoughts on the song Marco linked.
Here's my song. WARNING - it's weird
First off, I appreciate the experimentality of the beat. It's not chill or easy listening in any way and it's not trying to be. She just wants to go really hard - and that she sure does. This song probably won't find its way onto my playlists, but I can imagine a crowd going wild to this at a show. I could potentially rave to this under the influence of enough alcohol.
In the same spirit, I'll link something that is weird as well. For the first four minutes it's fairly easy listening, after that it gets progressively more... experimental. Excuse the fact that it's long, but I need to share this work of art with the world and this seems like the perfect place to do it. Mad kudos to the madman that will listen to the whole thing and share their thoughts.
Aw man, I really dig the "old-school" hip hop vibe. Makes me wanna hang out with my boys. It also reminds me of @Yumavo Cado as he is one of the reasons I started listening to hip-hop in the first place.
hi marco I love you will you please kiss me
