Hello again all,
Been a while, but here with an interesting new thought I had the other day while reading Luffy's awakening. It apparently is possible to still use a devil's fruit ability, while not understanding it, or even knowing what it is.
Which got me thinking. Moria was hotly debated back when of giving up the fight right when he could have won against the straw hats back in the Thriller Bark arc. Any opinion to the contrary was met with "Moria told us himself that it didn't matter even if he was killed".
Well, we now have a precedent in the world that just because you have a fruit power does not mean you understand what it is, how it works, or what it's limitations are.
The theory/opinion I want to put forward to you all to get feedback on is that Moria didn't actually know the capabilities of his devil's fruit. There were many complaints that during his arc his abilities just came of no where with no seeming link. What if that was the point? That he, like Luffy, doesn't actually know what his devil's fruit is fully. Whether by misleading documentation on the fruit, Gomu-Gomu no Mi, or that it was never documented/explored fully.
With his current fight happening with Blackbeard off screen I think we're going to see a different understanding of the Kage-Kage no Mi, if that is what it is at all.
