Synopsis:
Ashito Aoi is a young, aspiring football player from a backwater town in Japan. His hopes of getting into a high school with a good football club are dashed when he causes an incident during a critical match for his team, which results in their loss and elimination from the tournament. Nevertheless, he catches the eye of someone important who happened to be visiting from Tokyo. How will things turn out for Ashito?

One of my first sports Anime’s. Or at least one that I’m watching out of consent and not just seen random episodes off like with Inazuma Eleven.

Regardless, we got a lot from this first episode. Which is saying something with only 23 minutes which felt like 40. So a good compliment to start this off. Our MC is Ashito or something, not sure if I’m writing his name right, but who cares at this point. It’s only the Main Character who has the biggest flaw introduced in team sports.

Well, at least for the remainder of Episode one, but I feel like this is not saying he’s the perfect player. There should be enough room for him to grow and they did an excellent job highlighting this in the first episode. I’m excited to see where this goes.

So from what I can gather this show is going to focus a whole lot on character. If they can nail that with good execution of soccer than this really can be a hit. This is the first time Ashito has been surrounded by real players with real skill. Which is always a good thing so they can see what kind of difference something like that can make.

What I really want is for someone to put him in his place. Because again he's speaking up when he should just be grateful that he's there in the first place. I hope it happens later down the line. With the match it happened as well. Way too set in his ways. I wonder how this is going to further his standings.

So we’re starting off this episode by finding out he made the cut. They’re always the last ones to be named, god some things never change huh haha!

I thought the episode did a really good job at showing us who’s going to be the Villain of the story. Maybe for a long time, maybe for a short time, but Akatsu shows us why this is a team game and not a solo game. Someone like Aoi is going to be his strong oppressor. At least that is what it feels like for now.

They did do a good reveal at the end to show just how much experience lack there is between the two teams. A good way to make sure people care about the progression that needs to be made and also to show people where they need to go in order to succeed. I wonder what’s going to happen next.

I’m going to disagree with you… He’s not wrong… he’s already shown in the first meeting with the recruiter/youth team coach in episode one that he’s not a selfish player and exactly how/why he’s so good/where he’s going to grow. He can see the entire field of play and knows for a fact that he’d be nowhere without his teammates. So… what’s the problem? At least he’s communicating at trying to get them to work together. He does have the ability to see past the other side. And has stated that he’s willing to give the ball away if they’ll give it back. He said he only keeps it because they don’t give it to him. As you can see in episode 3, they do a better job of showing the progression of his skills and abilities by showing the other team’s blocking his vision with the dark spots showing where he had no path, etc Of the new potential recruits, he’s the only one who had the ability to sense both why the early game felt wrong and why the mid and late games were the way they were. He saw it all. It’s that ability to see everything that is critical along with his ability to focus and move his body at will. His valuing his teammates is critical.Sure the opposition to last year’s successful recruit is important but in many ways. The early statements that you made implied he shared egghead’s values which he clearly does not.

The way that he got discouraged but picked himself up… simultaneously thinking about soccer and his outside support was phenomenal. And his ability to pull the others along with him. That’s really where it’s at, in my opinion. Then in the final interview he was able to articulate it somewhat so that was good as well. The crowd during the tryouts actually supporting them was good too. She wrote him a meal plan. I hope he follows it. Also, does he realize that he called her and immediately ignored her?! She’s going to be pissed off—that’s so rude!! Welp, I said I was rewatching this but I hit play and just started typing because I remembered it all suddenly lol. His poor mom though, she’s been so conflicted about everything. She wants the best for him but she also wants to see her baby boy more methinks.

The try-out was thrilling. Like the characters. Especially big bro is love! I felt sad when mommy said "I feel soccer is taking you away from me" at the end of ep 4 🙁

Yes, that and also the money problem. Big bro was saying that they don't have to worry if Aoi doesn't make the team (no huge expenses for sending Aoi to Tokyo) but ofc mommy wants her baby to succeed (´థ.థ`)

The ending of the match was thrilling for me. I did like the fact what happened with his vision and the crow. I do think that it shouldn't be like a power, but more a visualisation of what his mind is doing. I like this show because it is steeped in Realism. Same thing with Tomodachi Game,

The mom at the end of the episode broke me. I can understand where she is coming from.

I was thinking the same thing, but I do think that if she heard everything she's probably understanding enough to get why this happened.

I did watch all of this yesterday, so forgive me if my reviews aren't as big as they are usually.

This episode did make me feel a bit for Ashito. I feel like he and his mum share so many traits, So many that they can't talk to each other, but you could see the guilt on his face and the pain in his eyes when he needed to go alone and not so goodbye to his mum. I felt it as a very vulnerable scene.

Have to say that this episode was quite a good one to introduce the whole team. Luckily the other two of his crew have made it into the team as well. As they have a phone, they were able to exchange numbers and find out before coming to Esperion. Which is a nice touch to add, since the kid is poor, he can't have one. Very nicely done.

From the coaches, I didn't get any real vibes except of course from the main one, the head coach and of course the new recruit coming in and being scouted especially for the team. The kid on his right was right to question his motives as he seems to have some kind of issue with players that came up from the system. I wonder why that is.

Everything that happened between him and that girl was fun to watch. She is going to be right sooner rather than later about all the stuff that he is doing to his body. She is the one who knows far more about that kind off stuff than anyone else.

This episode served as a raw reminder of how far behind he actually is. He showed it from the moment the game started that he is out of his league where he is now. He's the one who's falling behind his teammates. Which is not a bad thing, always good to have a hurdle to climb over to start climbing the ranks eventually. What I did find interesting is his exceptional thinking to not see Soccer as a team sport in someway. Especially during the beginning of the match, never did he not want to score. I get that scoring is important, especially for the attacker, but you aren't the only one on the field. You need to move the ball around.

The coach explained it best at the ending of the episode and Kurona rubbed it in his face too. He doesn't know what his teammates are doing, he doesn't get it. Meaning he will not get promoted until he does.

They talked in I believe Episode 5 from the top of my head. The moment that he got accepted, he was on the phone with that girl and later as well. His mum got angry because he was using the phone so late in the evening. Then eventually got on the phone with her over numerous days talking about everything he needed to start there.

I assume that he will, but for now it was just something that I noticed and wrote down. Just as a means of seeing all that is going wrong now and that he can learn in the future. I do think that he has a long way to go, but seeing him improve is going to be nice.

I was sooo irritated while watching this episode. I mean, if Ashito doesn't even know the basics, if it's impossible for him to keep up with the team, WHY THE HELL DID YOU TAKE HIM????? You should teach him what he doesn't know!!!!
In Haikyuu, Hinata was a blackhole at receiving! Noyassan taught him step by step. Ofc that didn't magically make Hinata better but over the time, he learned from others and eventually became great at receiving!!!! And this is a youth club we're talking about. Why isn't anyone properly teaching him???? Why is the coach comparing Ashito to players who have been going through this harsh training for several years already????
And now the roomie is going to teach him? Oh. About time!!!!!! If the roomie can teach him, how come he couldn't learn from Tachibana and Ohtomo, btw? I understand that not everyone can learn from everyone but this is driving me nuts............
