So, chapter 1014 came out and apparently Luffy died : : ......NOT. Come on, I like plot twists but that ain't happening, Luffy needs to be saved somehow. The question is how. Well, we do get a hints about it so let's check them out and see where they lead us : .
Let's start off with the most direct hint that is Momo.
Just like how Momo heard Zunisha's voice back at Zou and was able to give him permission to help, I believe Momo once again heard the voice of someone willing to help. At first there was a possibility of Momo being connected to Zunisha alone and was able to hear him thanks to that special connection. However, now I think the scale is tilting in the side of another scenario. That scenario is Momo having the ability to "hear the voice of all things". Now, I'm not suggesting that ability is strictly hereditary, not by a longshot. However, the fact that Oden, Momo's father seemed to have had the same ability seems to be hinting that Momo has it as well. It is seemingly weaker than Roger's / Luffy's though.
Why do I think that? Well, I suppose there is the idea that the one Momo heard was Zunisha's but I personally shot down that idea from various angles. First of all, how fast could Zunisha have travelled for him to be able to go to Wano on time, especially so unnoticed by anyone there? And even supposing that was somehow magically possible, how could Zunisha have gotten to the top of Wano? Not to mention that Momo would have recognized its voice and wouldn't be wondering who it was. It seems impossible from every angle, doesn't it? Just to remind you, Wano's topography is roughly like this:
Forget Zunisha, Wano's topography makes it hard for even our next guess as to who Momo heard to have made its way up there. Said second guess would be one of the sea kings. Why a huge sea king would climb all the way to Wano, unnoticed and without anyone actually calling it, is not only unknown but also a bit unlikely in my opinion.
"But Yuu, why does it have to be a huge creature that saves Luffy?"
Well, dear reader, much like it was with Zunisha and the sea kings that Shirahoshi commanded, the ability to hear a clear voice from a creature implies a certain level of intelligence on the part of said creature. It's not like the size affects intelligence directly as it would also have to do the creature's species but its age does presumably affect its intelligence. And for the intelligence species we've seen, old age usually also implies increased size.
"That's good and all Yuu but if it's not this and it's not that, what the hell is it in the end?"
I want to tell you the answer to that question, and I will, but not yet. Please keep that question in mind as we go to see one more thing.
This is something that we've seem to have put in the back of our heads and seemingly forgotten about it, but Onigashima is flying! What's the deal with that situation? Doesn't it reminds you of the Noah slowly falling on Fishmen island? Assuming that Kaido needs to be deafeated for it to stop flying, it'll presumably take a while, long enough for Onigashima to move above Wano's mainland. So what will happen when Kaido is defeated? Will the island fall on top of the capital or some village and wipe out every resident there? I mean, it's possible but it sounds too dark a development for One Piece. So, someone has to stop it from falling. I doubt Kaido will have a change of heart and no offense to Momo but I doubt someone who can barely fly will manage to lift an island put it back to its original location. So who will that someone be? Time to answer the question that's been on your minds since earlier.
There is a creature that's more or less kind of a sea king that is local to Wano. That's right, the koi fish. HOWEVER, not just any old koi fish. I'm talking about the "sea king" that presumably commands the koi fish of Wano and has a power similar to Kaido, which can allow said creature to lift Onigashima. That's right, a real dragon in all its glory.
As many of you probably know from various theories about Kaido or from any other source, there is a certain legend about koi fish climbing a waterfall and transforming into a dragon. Now, when I say "dragon", many of you may be thinking of the mountain-dwelling, treasure-hoarding, fire-breathing children of Daenerys Targaryen. Just to point that out, I'm talking about the chinese version of dragons, or Loongs if you're more familiar with that name. Now, compared to the western version, chinese dragons are known to dwell in large bodies of water instead of mountain tops. Well, would you look at that, there's a giant body of water right under Onigashima. On top of that, chinese dragons are viewed as spiritual entities and sometimes as guardians of certain locations. So I think said dragon will be the one to use powers similar to Kaido to return Onigashima to its original place or at the very least be the one to stop it from crashing onto Wano itself. Not to mention that Yamato downright hints who exactly has the power to move whole islands with the cotton candy like substances that are clouds.
: ...WAIT, wrong one :
This one.( Thank you for the reminder Marco Polo ) We see Yamato directly hinting at who will help with dealing with Onigashima.
Chinese dragons are also believed to have authority over water to an extend so it may also be the reason for the whirlpools surrounding Wano.
There is a remaining question for sake of thoroughness, is it actually possible for a dragon to exist? YES : and I have 2 reasons to believe they do.
1) First of all, we've actually heard mention of it. Have you forgotten about the legendary swordsman, Shimotsuki Ryuma? One of the legends regarding said swordsman, who by the way hails from none other than WANO, is that he cut / slayed an actual dragon.
Did Ryuma actually cut the dragon like Oden cut the huge boar (Nushi / Lord of the mountain), which then healed, and this is the same dragon? Entirely possible but it may also simply be its child like Nora (the giant snake at Skypiea) was the child of the giant snake that Noland killed.
2) Kinemon's swordsmanship, let's think about it. Kinemon seems to hate dragons cause of Kaido, since Kaido killed Oden and can transform into a dragon, so we all regarded his swordsmanship, capable of cutting fire, as something natural. Is it though? Did Kinemon actually have time to learn this so very specific swordsmanship AFTER Kaido killed Oden? I don't think so. However, why would a Kinemon with no hate against dragons learn a style of swordsmanship that focuses around cutting fire? Or the even better question, HOW did he learn it if it's something exclusive to him?
The answer is that Kinemon's style of swordsmanship is most likely something not exclusive to him but something exclusive to Wano. On top of that, it's most likely the "original" swordsmanship of the legendary swordsman, Ryuma himself (not Brook's sword style which zombie Ryuma used), the one who actually went up against and defeated a dragon. I mean, what better reason there is to develop a sword style that cuts fire than to go up against a dragon. I think Kinemon's sword style is a relic of the Wano country itself, which was developed by Ryuma to deal with dragons, and that not many get to learn it BUT Kinemon had a chance because of his position as the retainer of Oden (he had access to all kinds of manuals). The existence of such a sword style in Wano is proof that dragons have indeed existed and appeared in Wano before, and I think we're about to see one for ourselves shortly.
I believe Momo will ask the dragon for help and it'll be the one to not only save Luffy, but also the one to fly him back up the flying island of Onigashima. It's also a possibility for Luffy to somehow gain some inspiration about busoshoku haki through the dragon if the concept of ryuo / flow was somehow developed based on a dragon somehow. Well, the last bit about busoshoku haki is just a personal side tangent I find interesting.
In any case, I think you get the gist of it now. Dragons exist in One Piece and Luffy will be rescued by one, the same one who'll help them deal with Onigashima itself. Thank you all for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. I look forward to hearing what you guys think about it if you want to share your opinions and give feedback.
This was a theory made by yours truly, Yuuzume. :
