What Is The One Piece?

Hey everyone! The age-old question should be part of this forum... What do you think the One Piece is? Is it a crazy big Poneglyph, telling a stupid joke in an ancient language? Is it a bathing suit? Was Oda lying and is it the journey itself after all? What was it that made Roger laugh? Disclaimer: I think this thread should be in the One Piece Theories section, as we'll all be theorizing about what the One Piece is and because the thread might include spoilers in the future. If it should be elsewhere, please let me know!

I guess it resembles the "One Piece is the last Ancient Weapon" theories. I personally think it might be something else. Oda stated that when he wrote Romance Dawn, he knew how the One Piece story would start and how the One Piece story would end, and that he had never changed his decision on that. Also, nobody he knew of had already guessed what the ending would be. It seems a bit much to me that he would have the entire plan of the Ancient Weapons already when he wrote Romance Dawn. Of course, this is an assumption, but there's just too much that happened during the past 20+ years that he had never thought of at the beginning, including stuff like the Shichibukai; let alone some more obscure mid- to end-story plots. I could be wrong with this of course, but that's how I feel! Roger laughing about what he saw on Laugh Tale also indicates to me that the One Piece is something else than a weapon. It has to be something unexpected. Some info or some item that shows the irony of the world, or the irony of the pirate age. I can't wait to find out the truth, and it's what's been keeping me hooked since the very beginning.

I couldn't even begin to guess, but the recent chapters where we saw Roger's journey imply there's some kind of time-based aspect to One Piece, whatever it is. Also, if translations are accurate then One Piece is an object rather than a concept, since Roger asks "who will find it" rather than "who will acheive it" (seiryu if you have the raws clarification could be useful here?)

I'm not going to quote since it's already a little messy. Rohan There's definitely a lot of aspects that fit the plot/breadcrumbs. This is definitely a factor in the end of story content. The thing is that Oda confirmed in the early SBS that One Piece is an actual treasure. Although land/property is valuable, it isn't universally accepted as valuable (Luffy wouldn't care about owning the pangea). I'm still slightly skeptical on Oda's willingness to stick to the main plan, so I don't want to post about the pangea aspect. Judgement Oda had his "5-year plan" from the very beginning. All of the main plot points were supposed to fit in just five years of manga (vs. the roughly 30 years it probably takes). The Shichibukai expansion, the sudden change in writing style/plot presentation in Thriller Bark, data books, etc. are examples of Oda giving the fans additional content we keep asking for. There were some major changes, but the overall result hasn't changed. The Laugh Tale aspect could be a bit of a mislead. Although One Piece is the treasure, another part of becoming Pirate King is learning about all the dirty secrets/truth of the Void Century. Reading the most important poneglyphs is probably not part of the One Piece treasure, but is on Laugh Tale. This leads into Marco Polo 's part. The time based aspect is Roger not having the time to act on it. Because of his terminal illness, he couldn't go about overthrowing the Government. He had the knowledge, but did not have the time. We know directly that Roger's disease suddenly took a turn for the worse after getting to Laugh Tale (they decide to split up and the massive medications Roger is given doesn't do much). This implies Roger is getting weaker due to his body breaking down. I'll have to come back...I deleted the raw volumes off my laptop since the number of files was slowing things down. I'll find the raw of the first chapter and come back and post the raw text of "One Piece".

I think we got a foreshadowing in the Big Mom Arc. So the treasure has material value because it allows you to change the face of the world. But it also has cultural value which will unite all the races and create a peaceful haven of unity. I think this is what Luffy will go for: uniting all the races and trying to bring universal peace.

Fighting oppression is totally a Luffy thing, so the overlap with Big Mom is something I fully agree with. If this Pangea is that big, it would have been found already. There's an official map with a HUGE island that spans the Calm Belt into one of the four Blues (almost has to be Elbaf contextually). As for the raw: ひとつなぎの大秘宝："The great treasure that connects all things". I thought it was mentioned first elsewhere, but it's Coby is the only one that mentions it in volume 1 from what I browsed through. By Oda's mouth One Piece is an actual treasure (super early SBS). How this makes Roger laugh and how it has ties to the Ancient Kingdom is the big twist.

Ah, if we're talking about origin/capitol/most significant part of Pangea (the Ancient Kingdom's capitol) being Laugh Tale, I'll 100% agree. By definition, it cannot be Pangea. Pangea is the entirety before the destruction.

This is all fascinating and I’m sure it’ll turn out to be something very Luffy-like but I honestly am in it for the journey. I just don’t want a boring adventure. It’s how I live my life. Having goals is great but if you’re too set on the expectations of what those end goals are going to look like, you miss the experience of living and the joys to be had right now. You’re always set wanting more. And when you obtain what you were reaching for, it’s not the way you imagined it, so you’re disappointed. I’m not saying have no standards. But be appreciative. Definitely focus more on what’s not acceptable right now, do what you can to change it, than what you wish you had later. That being said, these are some great ideas and insight—thanks for sharing!

The journey makes the destination worth it, imo. But the journey won't stop at the destination! Also, I'm just so curious what this mysterious treasure is gonna be :'D

Its well thought out and it has the right arguments. Great idea's and stuff to think about. (I couldn't stop reading lol) This is just one of these theory / complot that I don't want to look further into, simply because I want to experience it all myself. This is the true ending of the serie called One Piece and so its one of these things I want to see for myself when the manga reaches its end. Oda is a mastermind and let's see what he comes up with to end this fantastic story. :) Nonetheless thank you for sharing. If I start reading something, I just cannot stop before I have read it all. : : :
