Would you look at that, it’s that special day again.
How many of those have I had now? I’m starting to lose count.
I’ll think about it later, I’m late for work.
That cute girl who works down the hall just smiled at me. I wonder if she knows what day it is?
You idiot, of course she doesn’t. You’re too afraid to talk to her.
I’d better get to work. Those reports won’t write themselves.
It’s weirdly quiet here today. I wonder where everyone is.
When I get up to fill my coffee cup, I realise the office is empty.
Weird.
When I open the door to the break room, my co-workers are all on the other side.
“Surprise”, they say.
There’s a little cake with some candles on.
“Make a wish,” they say.
A wish? I’d almost forgotten what those are.
But if I could ask for one thing,
It’d be for that cute girl from down the hall to be here next time.

Besides a presentfilled shelf
