Ok, Oda has been delivering some incredible chapters this past year with the Rocks stuff, the Oden flashback and then also the hugeness that was Chapter 1000, and this is RIGHT up there with them... very, very impressive.
I’ve been re-watching early One Piece recently and one of the things that’s been really clear to me watching through is Zoro’s willpower. That man is injured or (extremely malnourished) for about 90% of East Blue but still manages to pull through in fights. That’s the same throughout the series - his will is probably only second to Luffy’s in the series, so for him to allegedly have Conqueror’s Haki is not a surprise at all. It’s not quite clear how it’s manifesting here, though - is Ashura a manifestation of Conqueror’s Haki? Because that’s what I get from this chapter in terms of his use of it. He can take a break now before any final fight though - he’s taken some real punishment here.

With Zoro unlocking his haoshoku, all we need now is for Sanji to do the same. I'm going to assume Jinbei already has his.
I don’t think Sanji has Haoshoku, and I’d be pretty confident saying the same for Jinbe. It’s one of those “you have it or you don’t” situations, and I think in this case neither of them do. Unless Rayleigh lied to us about how Haoshoku manifests and people can unlock it, then I would expect Luffy/Zoro to be the only ones that have it from the crew. A Roger/Rayleigh type situation.
Yes, Oda is definitely back on his game! My only hope/request is that he isn't taking the easy way out and is going to keep everything from the past 20ish years connected. As for the Zoro and Sanji stuff, we already have clear breadcrumbs that both did not have it earlier (they are jealous of Luffy and both make comments on confirming Luffy has haoshoku). Zoro unlocks it/activates it/progresses to the point of magically creating it because of the strong willpower you mentioned. Sanji is very similar when it comes to protecting what he wants. For as much grief he gets, there is still positive intention behind never kicking a woman (hopefully emphasizing his various roles as a key figure of shifting an arc with all of the Mr. Prince personas and protecting the crew when he is the primary fighter are not overlooked).
Because haoshoku is a black or white of having it or not, it is as simple as using it or not. There should be zero connection to Ashura other than it is currently Zoro's strongest three-swords style attack (since his haki/soul/whatever creates the additional six swords). Unless Oda is going to have people have individualized haoshoku. Mihawk would have said something if he saw haoshoku during all of their training since Zoro had to have used Ashura multiple times over their two years of training.
The Sanji and Jinbei aspect is driven by the remaining arcs. The Red Hair crew has always been implied to be the strongest collection of individuals. Just like how Devil's Fruits were supposed to be super rare, I'm fully expecting haoshoku to become the new norm. One of either Sanji or Jinbei have to fight an admiral. They contextually have haoshoku. The same aspect goes for the fight against Blackbeard's crew. They all were just a step behind Roger and Whitebeard. The biggest aspect is that Oda does not introduce too many new variables. Haoshoku coating is in all likeliness going to become the norm.>
Also, LUFFY OH MY GOD. He’s taken a HUGE step to becoming Pirate King with this chapter. I’m not entirely clear on how this application of Ryuo relates to the way Hyogoro taught him to do it (@Jawahib your input here would be massively appreciated), but the fact that the things Luffy is currently doing are things we’ve only seen Roger and Whitebeard do tell me that there’s really only two people that can stop him from achieving his dream now (Blackbeard and Shanks).
Wait...it looks and has the exact same mechanisms as well as effect as level 2 haki. The only difference is that Luffy is using haoshoku rather than "normal" haki energy. I was the one arguing from the start that haoshoku should have some sort of benefit/power up when using other techniques. This was false for all previous techniques, but is now true for this haoshoku coating. >
Kaido can use it - Luffy says in this chapter that his Thunder Bagua attack was coated in Haoshoku.
Ah, this clarifies the previous aspect. We know Kaidou and Big Mom have haoshoku. Context implies they know how to use at least the basic level 2 haki/basic defensive bushoushoku. We have never been shown it yet. Kaidou and Big Mom have used basic offensive bushoushoku. Level 2 haki and haoshoku coating have extra damage with zero physical contact. Kaidou has always directly hit Luffy with all of his club attacks. So Luffy implies Kaidou can use it, we have never been actually shown it. So IF Luffy is correct, Oda is only showing us the correct visuals for Luffy (showing the air between contact points, showing the blackening, etc.)>
Prime Garp was implied to be close to Roger and Prime WB’s level, but age is likely a huge factor in him not being streets ahead of everyone (even though he’s still strong it takes an effect). I think he was said to be the strongest Marine back in Marineford?
I gotta be blunt: are we going to avoid the main question on purpose? I'm fine dropping the Oda attacking, but it is clear that IF we are not shown Kaidou, Big Mom, Garp, admirals, Shanks, etc. using haoshoku coating and likely other forms of mastered haki, the plot becomes contradictory. Yonkou have to be able to use it because they would automatically lose to Whitebeard. They cannot protect their own territory without being roughly on the same level. Same goes for the balance of power between pirates and the Marines/Government. The Marines as a whole are stronger and have the upper hand of controlling much larger chunks of the world.
We know Garp does not have a fruit ability. Just like Shanks, they have to have higher levels of mastered haki. Yes, it is new, but IF Oda is going down the current path of taking this away from Kaidou and Big Mom (yes, Luffy says Kaidou can coat himself in haoshoku => this may only be defensive but even that contradicts because Luffy always has been shown to touch Kaidou. If the mechanics for defense are the same, there has to be a gap/air shown between Kaidou's scales and Luffy's body part). Oda tries to hide it with the impact with all of Luffy's usages in this chapter. And there is a clear increase in the gap/airspace between level 2 haki and this new haoshoku coating. With the power increase, there is this new impact visualization. Since Roger and Whitebeard use it equally, this is where we get a similar effect as normal haoshoku clashing. WHICH really complicates things because that shows that at least a minimal amount of haoshoku is present in normal offensive or defensive busoushoku.
Just like the introduction of fruit abilities and haki, hopefully we get thorough explanations like Devil's Fruits and not the disorganized mess that haki still kinda is.
I just double checked chapter 1009. There is an impact visualization shown for an unnamed club attack that does normal damage (context implies just a normal impact visualization vs. haoshoku coating impact). We have normal busoushoku visualizations for the Ragnarok attack which makes direct contact with Luffy. Unless I'm missing something, none of the visualizations of haki is showing defensive busoushoku or haoshoku coating for Kaidou and Big Mom. >
Thus the clouds relates to Prometheus request? Or a another player/character will introduce to the ongoing battle?
Hopefully the request is in-fighting against Zeus for his betrayal with Nami. This will weaken Big Mom and make it easier for the allies.>
So, Oda wanna try tell us that this coating of conquerors Haki is the main or perhaps the final stage of using Haki. Given not all haki users posses this, only those who have strong will power and born to conquer. Luffy already knew how to activate it without any triggering factor while zoro still unaware and after this battle or 3-4 chapters, maybe zoro can picture out the concept on how to coat an conqueros haki to his 3 swords.
So the main question now, is this enough to defeat a Yonko? Or Oda sensie will also reveal his last ace card? ( Luffy’s Gear 5th equipped/coated by conquerors Haki )
Take a break Oda! You deserve a rest after dropping this bombs.
Yup! The biggest bomb is Zoro unlocking haoshoku. I'm biased to say that this new haoshoku coating becomes the "new fad" and everyone relevant (in terms of being a powerhouse fighter) learns how to use it. So I think Zoro, Jinbei, and Sanji will all have haoshoku coating/level 3 haki/whatever name the fans or Oda comes up with, by the end of the series. >
What do yo guys think about this punch vs King Elizabetho's King Punch? Same concept, but Luffy's will will never be broken or fade?
I don't recall King Elizabello using any form of haki. Maybe it is the same technique? But it would be weird that he only has mastered haki and no other haki abilities. The massive warm-up time and massive fatigue could just make it a normal attack (zero haki and just his true 100%, max exertion punch). Ah, it is a projectile attack. Haoshoku coating is not a projectile. It has to be different. Essentially, King Elizabello is the only person thus far that can do a blade projectile, but without the blade. We might have had people use the wind/force from a punch/strike, but this is clearly the energy manifesting into an actual projectile. So we did get foreshadowing of Oda's planned power-ups since it is the same concept as blade projectiles.
