Eiichiro Oda, Shueisha, Inc. and Shonen Jump have launched a One Piece worldwide popularity poll in honor of the manga's 1000th chapter.
The long-running Shonen Jump manga series, One Piece, is about to hit its 1000th serialized chapter. To honor the series and its mangaka, Eiichiro Oda, Shueisha, Inc. and Shonen Jump have started the "One Piece 1000 LOGS" project, a global popularity poll to determine the most popular One Piece character from 1000 hand-picked characters from the series.
Popularity polls are a common occurrence in the manga industry, especially in Shonen Jump, but rarely is it a global event. Jan. 3, 2021 at 7 am PST and 10 am EST is when the poll will go live on https://onepiecewt100.com/ for fans to vote on the homepage. This is the same day as the worldwide release of One Piece's 1000th chapter. The poll will stay up until Feb. 28, 2021 at 6 am PST and 9 am EST when the tallying of the results begins.
The New York Times is also promoting the campaign by featuring a One Piece color spread of the manga's main characters, The Straw Hat Pirates. This color spread is also a remake of the first milestone color spread that Oda drew for Chapter 100 of One Piece. The colors pread is also followed by the tagline, "WE ARE ONE," a reference to the name of the anime's first OP, "We Are."
"WE ARE ONE" is meant to act as a testament to One Piece's diverse network of fans across the globe, all united under the banner of One Piece. Its long-lasting popularity can be seen by how it holds the Guinness World record for "The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author."
Shueisha will also steadily be releasing other promotional material for the "One Piece 1000 LOGS." Among them will be live-action trailers, exclusive artwork by other Shonen Jump mangaka, and collaborations with other magazines as well.
