Synopsis:
Centuries ago, mankind was slaughtered to near extinction by monstrous humanoid creatures called titans, forcing humans to hide in fear behind enormous concentric walls. What makes these giants truly terrifying is that their taste for human flesh is not born out of hunger but what appears to be out of pleasure. To ensure their survival, the remnants of humanity began living within defensive barriers, resulting in one hundred years without a single titan encounter. However, that fragile calm is soon shattered when a colossal titan manages to breach the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the fight for survival against the man-eating abominations.

After witnessing a horrific personal loss at the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager dedicates his life to their eradication by enlisting into the Survey Corps, an elite military unit that combats the merciless humanoids outside the protection of the walls. Based on Hajime Isayama's award-winning manga, Shingeki no Kyojin follows Eren, along with his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and his childhood friend Armin Arlert, as they join the brutal war against the titans and race to discover a way of defeating them before the last walls are breached.

It’s like it starts off with a fever dream. Or is this a flashback? Hmm they’ve mentioned the founding Titan and the Armored and Beast Titans as well. Maybe this is the future and these are the opposing forces who still hold the antiquated way of thinking. I get it now. OMG they’re deploying them as weapons of war in a bombardment WTF?! This a serious war. Way to sacrifice your people. That was ugly and brutal—but well, it was war, so it was beautifully done but such great effects and such an amazing opening to the season this is disjointed because I was sort of reacting as I went but too busy watching. Is Reiner dead?!

Oh yes it's finally here. I love the animation so far (and it sticks close to the manga art style too) so I'm looking forward to see the upcoming amazing action scenes. First, the opening. I didn't know what to think of it at first but now I think it's growing on me! Haha. And the ost is superb as usual. And the first episode follows the manga exactly which is really good to see. The war scene is as amazing as I expected it to be. Will be waiting for my man Chad Eren to appear soon : WeebyWitch I don't want to say too much since I'm afraid I might spoil things, but if you're asking about the timeline of the current plot, Magath already mentioned this is 9 years after Reiner and the gang left to capture the Founding Titan.

Yeah I got that part eventually. I was just confused by the initial style of the fighting and the first character’s confusion in that he was like oh no I was fighting a Titan and now I’m here. It seemed like it might’ve been a flashback/delusion at first of someone in the time we were in before. But as things progressed, I figured it out. They stated that this war had been going on for four years and then the 9 year thing as well as the succession stuff and Reiner and the Beast Titan with whom I’m familiar showed up so it made a little bit more sense to me. It was just a bit jarring of a start since I hadn’t refreshed my memory of how it ended before jumping right into it (like I usually do before starting a new season). And my post was very disjointed since I typed most of my thoughts in a PM on Discord to sweetjacky before posting here and forgot to copy them over—especially the ones that made more sense (or as much sense as I ever do) lol. Thank you though!

Well quite a lot of people got confused at first too because of the unfamiliar faces I guess. But it does make me wonder why it completely slipped out of some people's mind that the Marleyans mentioned right off the bat they were bringing the titans Jaw and Cart, but then Jaw appeared and they have no idea what the titan was lol. (or who the titan is connected to). This is why I keep telling people to really pay attention to the screen when watching SnK. : Also, it's pretty funny how some people were like, why does Reiner look like he's aged so much : Well, most likely because of the stress haha... What do you guys think of the opening btw? People are saying it's different (some prefer Linked Horizon) but I agree with the comments saying that this opening actually fits the season a lot, and that it's a right decision to not have Linked Horizon do it this time.

Wow...that was one hell of an opening episode! I probably re-started the manga after this part of the manga, so it felt like it was all new to me. Sounds like at least the anime didn't transition the time skip clearly, but considering there's a TON of stuff to get to, I can completely understand rushing the jump. Is that Jean buying the paper at the end? Hmm...I can't quote without leaving the page, so I guess I'll tag GoldenVenus for the question posed: My initial reaction was that it just "felt different". All the rainbow colors implies happy stuff, which in turn hopefully means the ending is a happy one (if not the opening is completely out of place for the last episodes).

seiryu There's no right or wrong to interpreting it of course, but, how do I say this, it's not what on the surface, I guess? To me, the colors aren't implying 'happy colors' at all. The whole opening is like from the sole perspective of the Marleyans. Their propaganda. The grand and 'stunning' colors of the explosion here and there like it's glorifying the war and the destruction. As if they're the one representing 'justice.' Then you see the clouds/smoke of those colors covering the sky while there are little birds and people falling. But of course, that's just my interpretation.

I guess for me, the stereotypical opening/ending animation is full of spoilers and insight on what's to come. It sounds like we agree that the colors/this additional effect seems out of place. Zeke has big plans indeed. Did we know that he was associated with Eren’s dad previously? I really feel like I need a refresher because it’s been a while since last season. Anyways, it’s pretty convenient that Gabi is leaving out that her comrade in her unit saved her. I like that he and Reiner are on the same page though. Poor guy really is conflicted about everything that he went through. His aunt was not amused by him calling the Paradis folks “people”. Zeke is definitely smarter than the Marleyen’s want him to be, that’s for sure. He knew that they were bugging the room as they had their meeting. I wonder how he used that to his advantage. What happened to Ymir?! She was eaten?! That one guy says he’s her successor. That makes me sad. I liked her a lot. If I recall correctly, Eren and them learned the truth about the past but don’t like the Marleyen’s. They sympathize with the Eldrians though. I could be wrong but they still don’t forgive the things that have been done? I dunno. Really gotta refresh my memory. It’s like they’ll join forces with the underdogs and offer safe haven from their oppressors or something in the end to stop the need for them to fight and be weaponized. I’m just talking out the side of my neck though.
