I prefer the dialogue in the manga though with Shanks.
Were you reading the official? Have you checked the subtitled version of the dialogue? These things can make a difference. For the dubs, they choose words that match the animated lip movements as well as the meaning. So the meaning can differ slightly from the original. This is one of the reasons that I prefer a subtitled work—if it’s a good one. Then it’s closer to the original intent. Granted, there are cases where I’ve questioned the interpretations or choices in the subtitles just based on the limited Japanese that I’ve picked up myself.Sorry. I digress.Yes they’s a great scene! ^_^
Boodle is actually kind of cool and I love Chouchou to this day.
I started One Piece with the dub up until Hulu ran out of it (then I switched to subs—I was still anime only through most of WCI) which wasn’t very far, just a few arcs... maybe 50 episodes at the most. They definitely made an impression on me. I don’t remember their voices but the action wasn’t horrific. They managed to do their jobs and convey the characters properly. When I finally read those chapters, all I thought was how much I remembered loving them—how great they were. Luffy and his bond with ChouChou was fantastic. He stood up for him, empathized with him and bonded with him. It was insight into Luffy’s past but we didn’t know it. ChouChou defending that place was like Luffy and them back in the day trying to protect Grey Terminal against the nobles. Or maybe I’m tired and drawing connections where there are none. It’s been none to happen. Either way, it’s the start of him winning over allies and showing his remarkable connections/luck. Though maybe not the very start. Just the start of those outside the crew. Or proof of those non-human? Doesn’t matter, great characters. ^_^
