I was going to stay out of most discussions, but this episode was WAAAAYYY too good. It seemed like extra effects were used throughout the first 2/3rds or so of the episode (until the commercial break). The expansion of the fighting was great, and they are purposefully showing the Scabbards to be defeating more underlings than both Chopper and Luffy. The parts with Kawamatsu's named attacks, and especially his biggest named attack, were beautifully done.
I don't know how I feel about this colored haki aspect. Although I like the individualization, most of it doesn't fit unless they are doing projectile slashes. Especially if this isn't haki usage, then even more so. Either way, it does look great, so it will probably grow on me as it keeps coming up.
I have to think they outsourced the background, but all of the scenes of Zoro and Hiyori had a custom painting (I don't know what type, but very art-sy for sure). Even for such a minor scene, such extravagance has never been used previously, so I'm liking and hoping this trend continues and continues.
It was shown in the manga elsewhere, but Zoro activates his kenbunshoku to know the blow gun attack was coming. At least this gives clarity to the random activation/lack of activation if not fully concentrating aspect, but god damn...I just can't get over the amount of money they are pouring into these episodes. If ratings and box set sales can cover, then we are going to have amazing animation for hopefully many years to come.
