Here I come, advertising this website again...
Hi! It was me, 10thMember! I will advertise this website/group again, now with a new handle "KapteynG".
Just a small introduction to give you an idea of what LOLScans is:
LOLScansis a group of volunteers who likes to have fun and release HQ (high quality) projects. We scan and translate manga, manhua, and even light novels from its language of origin to English. LOLScans doesn’t mean “League of Legends Scans” (please… just don’t…) LOLScans means: Laugh Out Loud Scans. As for the reason why “LOL” was chosen as a name of our scanlation group was because of Marzia (the founder) and Josser (co-founder) love of using the acronym “lol”. As simple as that. LOLScans started back in October 2012, but because of real-life (medical) issues, the group had to put its debut on hold and ended up going for a long 2 years hiatus… Eventually, as things have started to work out, the group was run once again! We're currently doing a good job and hanging in there for 4 years, will turn 5 this year!
What projects we do:
We work on pretty much anything as long as there’s a good plot. Most of our projects right now are shounen, seinen, and shoujo. Genres are mostly in supernatural, mystery, horror, comedy, adventure and mature (not so much on the ecchi side.) We, however, decided not to work on Hentai projects, for reasons such as having a bunch of minor staff members. If you wish to make request, we will definitely consider it as long as:
The project doesn’t have a scanlator.
Not licensed in English.
The project has been dropped by the scanlation group.
The project has never been updated for more than 3 months.
We're always willing to accept volunteers as long as you're passionate about what we do. Application is a must, though. Applying does not mean we doubt your capabilities, we just want to look where you are in the matter since not every scanlation groups are the same. YHere, you also do not have to have photoshop skills to join/volunteer, 'cause we have people who are willing to train you. Let me stress it out again though, that WE ARE JUST BUT VOLUNTEERS and we earn nothing from this money-wise.
Anyway, here are the positions you might be interested in:
Translator: Translates the projects from its language of origin to English. We do Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, Thai, and Bahasa-Indonesian.
Proofreader: English savvies who nit-pick grammars and spellings, and providing best-fitted words to use to convey the messages as precise as possible.
Cleaners: We have colored and black & whites. Cleaning consists of removing texts from speech bubbles and removing SFX and redrawing the part removed. (You'll face me when it comes to cleaning colored since I handle everyone who works with colored projects.)
Typesetters: Places translated script to the cleaned pages according to original using the fonts preset per project.
QC/Quality Control: To avoid misconception, there are many things under being a QC in our group and it's not just being a Beta Reader type of deal. In this case, you must apply for all other positions to be able to qualify as QC (excluding translator, of course).
It's true that you'll be able to read the chapters as a whole as a QC, but you possess a huge responsibility to make sure that there weren't any mistranslations, misspelled words and grammatical errors PRs might've overlooked, ability to redraw parts you think were not redrawn properly and look through scripts and SFX misplaced during typesetting.
If you're interested in applying or joining, you can send me a message or visit our Discord server so we could talk about it more. See yah~
