Awww, wholesome cover page!
Luffy you delightful dumbass, so quick to trust.
Oof at Apoo not being liked.
OwO the samurai are going to be badass and try to fight to the death with Kaido (let's see how that works out for them).
Yes, the only thing missing from the cover page was Pound's grandson being able to celebrate since he's the one that recognized Pound as family from the start.
Luffy is blessed by plot armor so whoever he trusts is going to help him out in the end.
I share the curiosity in what Apoo has done to earn his reputation.
How extensive the action will be is going to be key, and I'm hoping for a lot!>
However, the moment that Luffy gives the OK, then that’s a sign for the crew to respect their captain’s choice.
WeebyWitch too. This sounds like/seems analogous to a parent "forcing" decisions on their child. No, it is not a universal rule. They go along with it, but will have their reservations. This is exactly the same as Zoro towards Robin. It is going to be the correct choice because of the Sword/Coby aspects, but Zoro, Jinbei, and Franky are 100% correct to expect Drake to earn his place/earn their trust.
Rayleigh had to protect Roger from the people aiming to take his head. The same thing is happening now that Luffy is gaining more and more notoriety. This skyrockets once Kaidou is taken down. >
Directly questioning him is one thing, and it’s usually Zoro that challenges some of Luffy’s more questionable decisions, but for him to directly go against his captain’s call is directly challenging the judgement of the guy he supposedly backs to become Pirate King.
And Luffy has made countless stupid and what ends up being the wrong decisions. This is a constant in every arc...so I'm bewildered at the judgement that they are wrong in doing what is correct for their roles. They all have extra responsibilities in the crew because they have an irresponsible captain. This is mentioned directly to Jinbei when he first joins back at Gyojin Island. So all of them are already "putting their money where their mouths are". They can't magically know about Sword and Coby.>
It looks like they’re a lot stronger than we gave them credit for, too.
And the main question is how things go once Kaidou goes into his human form, or a partial transformation form. >
>Poor Ulti & Page One, going against God is a grievous sin, looking forward to seeing that fight with Nami and Usopp!
>Man, I can't wait to see Kinemon's Foxfire technique in the anime, it looks so dope!
>Unfortunately Jack's whooping happened off-screen and it was a half-ass job, since he wasn't even knocked unconscious. Not really a fan of this development, but he seems to be badly injured, so I guess no more Jack for the time being.
>Wow, those Sulong forms look epic, and they managed to beat everyone aside from Kaido, so it's pretty cleared up on the roof, Kaido vs 9(+1) Red Scabbards, until a certain someone reaches the top.
>Not much development, but this chapter was great, can't wait for the next
Woah, a whole lot happened, and it is perfect because it is more "anime only" content. The other main point for me that is almost universal across these points is that this is not the climax fights. We still haven't had the tragedy of act 3 yet. The climax fights will come in act 4 (and the resolution/likely set up for the next war in act 5).
Who would the +1 be for the Scabbards? Luffy?>
>I used to like Apoo, but now I hate him, so I hope he gets clapped by Zoro and Drake, although Zoro proposing a team-up against an enemy sounds strange, he should be able to handle him alone, or at least let Drake do it and take on someone else.
What changed for you? I am a little disappointed in the details of his fruit ability, but it doesn't change how much I like the music based combat style. He is more of a dastardly character than the seemingly fun-loving character he initially is presented as, but waking up to the reality of what Yonkou/admiral level is does that to everyone except Luffy pretty much.>
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this(I didn't download the photo, I used snipping tool from windows), but in the last panel it looks like Kinemon was somehow able to cut kaido's mouth.
Also, it looked like he wasn't sure if his blow could have defeated kaido's breath.
Yes, editing to only post the necessary panels is the law that will go into effect 1/1/2021, so thanks for following.
It is a small cut, but any actual damage is huge considering the natural defense of Kaidou's body (equivalent to Big Mom's iron balloon), potential busoushoku defense, and dragon-related defensive boosts.>
2. Drake and Luffy low-diffing Numbers
Oda went out of his way numerous times to highlight the weakening from being piss-drunk (not everyone has Kaidou's Yonkou-level metabolism). They probably still win pretty easily, but this is not their true combat capabilities (Jinbei acknowledged this last chapter I think).>
3. Everyoke freaking out about Zoro jumping in as if he's disobeyed Luffy somehow. Luffy literally just started talking to Drake and with what Zoro says it sounds like he's trying to give Luffy the info he thinks Luffy doesn't have.
4. Not sure what code of ethics Jimbei is trying to pull. Betrayal is the norm for alliances as we've been repeatedly told. Again, this is a gag moment about Luffy being too trusting but remember he can sense intentions.
Yea..."everyone" seems to be forgetting Robin's introduction to the crew. Same goes for Brook. This is the norm. And it is their correct role to make up for Luffy's almost constant stupid decisions. Luffy is protected by plot armor for the important stuff (even the stupid stuff is plot armor too since it creates the additional drama/action).
Jinbei is referring to "honor among thieves" essentially. There is a subjective level that shouldn't be crossed. And it is all relative to not knowing about Sword/Coby. Both sides are 100% correct, so I don't get people overreacting to not seeing both perspectives.>
5. Didn't understand the exchange at first that Usopp shot them and then pinned it on Nami. I don't like this character regression. Usopp has to be better than this. Looks like him and Nami might be teaming up against PayPay and Ulti. Kind of a mismatch.
This isn't the climax fight, so the mismatch aspect can be downplayed. I thought it was befitting that Usopp got caught in his own prank though.>
10. Did Queen just use those weird bullets from the prison?
11. Jack lost. Kaido actually defending him and implying they would have killed him.
12. Neko and Duke look 100% fine with energy to spare!
13. Kin'Emon really can cut all flames.
I'm hoping for a new weapon from Queen. Yup, how the 9 Scabbards fair against Kaidou in his human and or partial transformation forms is going to be the real action, and most intriguing to me at least.
I think the "all" aspect is relative to power levels. If the attack is out of his league (a final attack from Akainu or Kaidou without the B.S. weakening of the full dragon transformation), he cannot cut all of it. It is the same concept as "unlimited" logia/awakening element creation being relative to energy/power levels. >
But I’m pretty sure he just took his shot and Nami started talking shot from behind him like she has always done which is why he told her to stop hiding behind him.
Since I typed out the further expansion, gonna keep it since you usually like to look stuff up. Oda purposefully shows Nami's mouth is closed and it is Usopp talking behind her. There's the awkward transition that Nami actually chooses to play along with it rather than fully deny it. This probably makes it murky (and I'm thinking more bad translations since the raw is very clear to me at least).>
it would’ve been fine IF Zoro and Jimbei had left their back talk at just giving information but they didn’t.
Gonna tag you above because Luffy consistently does the wrong/stupid choices in his life. It's always plot armor that saves him, so this is completely disregarding the crew's stated roles (Jinbei's introduction to the crew).>
shut the fuck up and do as you’re told at a certain point. Chain of command is there for a reason.
And chain of command is for them to prevent as much of Luffy's stupid mistakes as possible...>
So Kaido actually cares enough about Jack not to let him get killed? He saved him in the nick of time from the brink of death? How kind and unexpected.
Yonkou exec level fighters don't grow on trees. Maybe if he still had SMILE, he might be willing to part with a "weakling" that couldn't handle the fight against Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, but even this aspect is acknowledged by Kaidou too. I'm definitely more "pessimistic" because I think Kaidou only cares about his "strongest crew in the world" mini-dream. Everything is driven by the dream to destroy the world. His reasoning for this should be intriguing and there probably is some humanization by Oda here, so I'll 100% agree with these aspects.
