To answer few Q.
- Hiking is one of my sports / hobbies and with it comes climbing as well :)
- I always try to bring out beauties of places i visit,... i guess in this thread it will mostly be from my home country Slovenia though, due to its nature of content. Slovenia has around 2500 mountains that peaks are above 2000m and its my unruly goal to conquer the all.
- I always make photos. Not only for memories and objects to share among others but also because its nice to stop while hiking, taking big breaths, picture and just enjoy the sceneries. Its also healthy for me to take photos... I gained a lot of strength recently and I conquer a mountain in 3-4h even though its marked as 5h hike... Not healthy ^_^ since my heart has to go into overdrive
Now... This one will be a 2 part since it was 2 day hike.
Location: Vrata Valley, Mountains Stenar & Križ, Križki Podi and Pogačnik hut
Due to sleeping over in hut i made reservation a month earlier and hoped for best weather possible. Hike is marked at around 6-7 hours and to avoid strong altitude sun rays i had to be an early bird. My pops drove me from Rateče to Vrata Valley at 04.00, roughly 1 hour drive.
Must say it was quite chilly, roughly 9 degrees but parking was FULL : : . Vrata Valley is famous because its North side of Slovenian highest mountain Mt. Triglav (2864m). It has 28 climbing routes, most hard and only for experienced climbers - Only 9 are protected ones, rest are free climbing.
But my destination was opposite of mighty Mt. Triglav.
On eve of my hike i packed my backpack...which reminds me... I'll make a post of my hiking gear one day as well !
With my 2 day gear my backpack was full (medium size 40L backpack)... with my cloths, boots and walking sticks i carried extra 27kg of weight on my back
But at 05.00 I was ready to go... with lamp on my head and red&white marks guiding me to 1st sign. I had to follow 4th one ''Čez Sovatno - Križ - Stenar - Pogačnikov Dom''. Each is 4-5h,...combined they are a lot longer :)
Mighty Mt. Triglav in its glory was constantly behind me. Also i noticed 1st climbers on top of it at 05.15...
First 30minutes were easy...Fun hike among the trees, then i came out into bushy part for 10 minutes and then... ugly fun began... rock everywhere
But god damn it i had great weather. Mountain above me is called Bovški Gamsovec 2392m - its called so because of mountain goats that are ALWAYS seen on it ''Gams''. This one is actually on my wish list for next year
After 4 hours i made it to 2100 meters, peak of Sovatna route. Here route splits into 4 directions
1. To Pogačnik Hut 30min
2. Bovški Gamsovec 45min
3. Stenar 1h
4. Križ 1h
Still Mt. Triglav in background... Also hut can be seen on it - Kredarica.
And my 1st goal... Stenar (2501m)
Right... HELMET ON... Why... I am not alone anymore and mountain goats (Kozorog/gams) can share some rocks with you while they jump the mountains.
Almost on top... few more meters... Pogačnik hut down under
On top of Stenar after 4h 30min, for me breathtaking view towards Škrlatica (2740m), 2nd highest mountain in Slovenia. Far in the back are Austrian Alps
After 10min break i started to descend and hike back up... sadly due to rough, dangerous path which was without safety wires i couldn't take photos... Life>photos : : ... but its is peak of 2nd mountain Križ (Cross in Eng.) 2410m and view back on Stenar
I returned back the same way,...since i left my backpack at the crossroads between Križ and Stenar (No worries, people don't steal here), and continued my hike to Pogačnik Hut.
Area around hut is called Kriški podi and it has 3 lakes... This is lower one
I didn't take a picture of a hut since I am describing a lot of stuff and they can be googled :) There are better pics of it on web. But here is start of Soča Valley from the hut. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was also filmed here.
At this point I was starving so big 1500 kcal meal was ready for me
Now this is one of biggest reasons why its SO EPIC to stay a night in mountain huts - sunsets and sunrises are insane!
Bovški Gamsovec & Pihavec (mountains)
Went to bed at ~10pm but man...those 15 people that were sleeping in hut ... we had shit loads of fun!!! one of BEST memories I got really.
Day 2 I'll probably post tomorrow. Maybe, due to bad weather i may get my gear together and take few photos of that too and make a description of stuff and how to start hiking / climbing
